left blank return after a short hiatus with their first release of 2013 from saa, a new project forged across borders between asher levitas of acclaimed shadowy london outfit old apparatus, and norwegian avant garde musician/vocalist linn carin dirdal.
left hand path is an ode to the other, the outside, the odd and uncanny, a window to the wilds of theoutdoors from the crushing claustrophobia of the rat race. musically, the new aspects album deftly treads the light beam divide of old and new - at times dusty-fingered and familiar, yet finding moments of un-quantized lo-fi sci-fi - not far from l.a.s low end theory sound buffet.
new leng signing auf togo are the combination of clement cachot-coulom from the fabulous penetrators and sasa crnobrnja, one half of in flagranti. their combined sound is one of vintage recording equipment and instruments coupled with tweaks and blends from the modern studio. this new 12 inch for leng draws on all their knowledge of the past and of the current club scene, effortlessly gliding through deep, warm analogue sounds and tougher studio techniques. both tracks have guitar work that reminisces of a late 60s west coast scene laid over strong bass lines and beats giving the perfect mix of home listening fuzz and a late night dance floor.
embracing his long standing passion for electronic music, the tracks on >stoic< showcase a diverse range of influences and are built to endure. the a-side moves from the mournful, hypnotic opener >bodies<, through the cold mantra of >trials<, to the shuffling trickery of >circles<. side b contains the gothic 2-step beauty of >shards< and the epic, industrial crescendo of >endings<. with an uncompromising vision - and an remarkable live show - to back up these initial offerings, wife is a truly unique talent.
american label mainstay realmz returns to sonic groove with another spectacular four track ep of hard edged industrial techno. entitled >left to my devices<, realmz once again shows off his originality in combining elements of industrial music with techno. you will even find a nice deep dark acid track to close things out. this ep is firmly solid on all four tracks. a must hear for any industrial techno lover!
support from: laurent garnier, luciano, chris carrier, dj. t, karotte, martin landsky, anthony collins, james what, butch, mr.g, joseph capriati, daniel sanchez, toni rios, cesare vs disorder, ambivalent, todd bodine, kabale und liebe, david labeij, mihai popoviciu, salvatore freda and more
a crossover between pop, house/techno and new wave is the dress of the fourth wwr 004 chapter. we think is useless to say anything about the new release of the duo altarboy. fortunatelly in music matters what do you feel, not what we say. listen is the best way to tell if you like it. we like it very much!
vessel returns to left_blank with 3 tracks of mind bending house & techno for the labels 5th release. after inaugurating the label almost a year ago with his critically acclaimed nylon sunset ep, vessel aka sebastian gainsborough went on to release a sold out split cassette with fellow left_blanker el kid, and a stunning digital only set for a future without. as a result of this the all conquering tri angle records snapped him up in early 2012 to release his debut album. this eps title track standard spans the length of the a-side: 5 minutes of low-slung, smacked out death disco, coming over like john carpenter meets newworldaquarium, pure valium vibes. merge on the b-side is positively sprightly in comparison, all rattling and metallic before a drop at the halfway point brings a welcome dose of detroit influenced machine funk. zero closes the ep in abstraction, whirring and stumbling along while showcasing sebs intricate sound design, a teasing glimpse at what is in store for his album later in the year.
lb003 arrives courtesy of bristol born, brighton based producer sam kidel, aka el kid. following up his well received debut on immerse sam drops 3 tracks of wildly varied bass music. beginning with the title track >hypnosis<, lush ambient pads and plucked guitar soon give way to fearsome bass swells and metronomic percussion, coming across like early autechre remixed by floating points. second track >mud< drops the pace for a noisy house workout, reminiscent of fellow bristolians kowton, and labelmate vessel. >kachinja< on the flip is the straightest - and darkest - of the lot, a lurching warehouse techno cut that wouldnt sound out of place on ostgut ton. finally hyperdub wunderkid walton contributes a rough & ready funky dub of >hypnosis< to round out the ep.
second release on is records, the a-side, the future never was combines sparse beats and pads held together by a growling stuttered bass, which gives the track an industrial feel but on a techno/house tip. on the flip, fake the feeling, draws on sounds beyond the current trend for vintage analogue in an original take on the house blueprint. the b2 track out of orbit is 4 minutes 48 seconds of tech soul, for the floor or the headphones.

tal m. kleins >house on the left< is the second single from his forthcoming exhaustasaurus lp. the name of the composition implies the track is left-field of house. jazz guitars lead the way for brooding pads and syncopated synths over deep beats. in short: a great moody tune!
comes on special coloured vinyl, somewhere between marbled and picture disc - a true beauty in sound & looks!
top canadian dj todd omotani enlists the amazing vocalist jaidene veda for his debut release on amenti music, a fine deep house outing reminiscent of mood ii swing. the ep features none other than the legendary charles webster on two excellent remixes!
the final part to the limited edition hi five mobilee! vinyl series features tracks from mobilees head lady, anja schneider, and one of the very first artists on the mobilee roster, sebo k. each of the artists careers have grown and flourished with the label, and whilst retaining many elements from their signature styles, these tracks also show how they have developed their sound over the last five years. sebo ks way back comes with a funky house bass line and colorful synths, creating a very full and warm sound, and one that is topped with an element of old school vibes. as with all of his releases, its classically built for the dance floor and one that will be enjoyed by many. meanwhile, anja schneiders >something left<, has a more minimal and isolated feel to it, broken up with the soulful voice of cari golden. completely contrasting to sebo ks a side, it makes this an interestingly varied release!
mugwumps geoffroy and kolombo have been on a continuous roll since we heard them last year on kompakt with their genre defying breakthrough 12inch single >fears inc.<. these belgian sensationalists have had a series of monstrosities including maxis on endless flight, cocoon recordings, gigolo, throne of blood and the hit >everything remains/parser< on the legendary r&s imprint. we missed them and if you can tell from this single, its obvious they did too!

two and a half years after their debut lp, 23 seconds, dazzled critics and lit up dance floors worldwide, cobblestone jazz are back with a powerhouse new album that captures their live-in-the-studio energy like never before. a mixture of heady, jazz-inspired house grooves and below-the-belt analog funk, it raises the bar for electronic dance music in 2010.titled the modern deep left quartet, the record marks an important addition to the cobblestone jazz lineup, as the trio of mathew jonson, danuel tate and tyger dhula brings aboard colin de la plante (aka the mole). de la plante is no newcomer to the cobblestone crew: the four musicians have been playing together for nearly 15 years, since their first performances in small-town victoria, british columbia, and theyve all shared the stage as the modern deep left quartet
great solo e.p. by i:gor, this time on nekrolog1k recordings, 4 quality hardcore tracks, drum & bass influenced, heavy stuff to create carnage on any dancefloor!
lotd remains steadfast in its endeavours to offer the best in left field electronic dance music with these 2 tracks from tony lionni. golden is an eight and a half minute journey beginning with stripped down detroit ish synths and ending in more lush, piano & percussion driven territory, with vocal samples being laid overtop the entire ride. epic stuff. the warrior is a deep, late night affair with shades of chicago jack & echoes of basic channel dubness. both of these tracks display tonys depth of musical knowledge while having there sights set firmly in the now & beyond.
perspectiv proposes you some serious vibes for your dj bag. october (caravan) strikes back with a new electronic odissey my left tool ep . on the flip tobias. (wagon repair, nsi) in top form deliver us one of the most sensitive remix ever on the label.
highly energetic disco from the rong camp with cheeky organ melody and big string backings. the flip is more on the balearic tip with a stripped down percussive groove, lazy guitar musings and dubby effects.
this monster is led by a growling, glitchy reese that drives this beast of a tune into an earth-shattering bass drop. paired with the punishing breaks and lethal edits guarantees a huge reaction every time its played. completely relentless, this one is for the dancefloor
7th sign lives up the expectations of what you might expect of such a high quality techno label!. >gyal flex< is a deep and dubby groover with dramatic stabs and spacey soundscapes !! on the flip we find duplex delivering one of their rare remixes. its >left then up< who gets the make over treatment. duplex manages to keep the beauty of the original and given it their signature deep techno twist. the original mix is a beautiful uptempo hybrid of edgy techno laced with the soul of house
mit kit clayton & sutekh, teilen sich zwei geniale soundtüftler eine platte. wem es bei aller dancefloortauglichkeit immer noch zu krumm ist, der wird mit den jorge savoretti und dem dilo mix bestens bedient !!
after the success of his first label, control recordings, bryan decided to start a second outlet to get music out to the masses. ringside 001 has bryan teaming up with italian phenomenon fabio bacchini for the massive left hook ep
another crater maker from the dmz cache, mala unleashes the up rolling classic left leg out. mercilessly driven by an insistent morse code arrangement and interlocking 4/4 polyrhythms this is an absolute winner from the man like mala. drawing influences from the rich soup of broken beat, garage and even funky house this one can slot in to any set with ease and drive a dance wild, just listen to any recent kode9 set, the proof is in the rewinds! the b side comes string with blue notez, a brooding slice of steppers pleasure with nuff dread bass, lonely sax licks and mutating snares for the twisup factor. you know you re going to love this one !! villalobos playlist !!
ghettofunk vs blacksoul start off with a jason hodges style cut gotta feel it tough beats hip hop vox cutups and bouncy bass the a2 cut help me thru a more layered track with vocoded vox fx and lots of quirky feel flip for the debutant tracy coopers 2 tracks uptown is a jackin jazzy groove with live horns big upright bass and well placed sampling definitely a track for the heather/sneak crowd green grass is a really funky slice of hybrid jazz with latin bassline and bluesy piano stabs the horns stabs work well within too
